A girl thing

The party in my garden, on a sunny, almost-cool Friday evening was a magical, memorable, uproarious gathering of cherished women friends. (I'm third from right, back row.)

To echo the North African menu, each guest's place was set with a Moroccan jeweled box. A heart-shaped note inside described the qualities I most appreciated in her.

Son Jules, bartender/sous chef for the evening, said to his father: "It's nice, but guys would never do that; it's totally a girl thing, telling them."

He thought it was also a
girl thing to serve fruit salad for dessert, but then to follow that with a luscious, lavish platter of chocolates. But you know women: eat the healthy fruit, then be tempted.

Your party sounds lovely! How neat to have personalized favors--it's an effort that most of us no loner make, unfortunately. And nice that your son was willing to serve as wait staff for you so you could enjoy the evening, too.

Oops, should have type "longer" not "loner". My fingers need another cup of coffee.

What a wonderful-sounding party, and what a chic and beautiful group of friends you have! I'm dazzled by your/their jewelry and realizing my own minimalism in that area needs some reconsideration.

I love what you did oh! I wish I was your bestest girl friend in the whole wide world. Honestly you do everything with such grace and perfection.
What an amazingly lovely bunch of girlfriends. (excuse the word 'bunch') It looked like a spendid time was had by all. I laughed at your son's comments about the things girls do that guys wouldn't dream of. Thank heavens for girls and especially for girlfriends! And sons who pitch in too:)

What a wonderful photo, and it sounds as if the evening was a marvellous celebration of friendship and the new boundaries which await us beyond 60. Reminds me of something a good friend's wise husband (long dead, sadly) used to say: "A wife's friends are the best dowry that anyone could bring to a marriage." They love us and support us in ways that complement our husbands' best efforts. Lovely that you made such an effort to treat them well and gift them with personalized notes, even tho' it was your celebration.

What a wonderful celebration was had. The attention you lavished on the details and the loving group of freinds sounds like a perfect evening and a perfect way to usher in another decade. What a lovely picture you all make.

All: Thanks for your virtual enjoyment. Maybe you would like to throw a party for any reason, with your favourite women around your table... I am not going to wait another decade to repeat!

It was amazingly reasonable. Every town has someone who would put it together... or someone willing to serve what you've prepared in advance. All you really need is someone so you're not popping up every 2 minutes.

Anjela: How I wish you'd been there, for many reasons.
