Pearls: June A-bloom

Extended Summer Closure
The Passage usually shutters for July and August; June is added this year.
My hand is healing from a fracture, so I'm off writing for a month.
The rx is rest, therapy and an occasional mojito (now that's a doctor!)

Please come back for the reopening, soon after Labour Day.
Though a summer like no other, it's still summer...
so I wish you all the pleasures available.
Thank you for strolling through.

We're headed into June, the month of the pearl. Though sunlit pearls glow splendidly on their own, they are even more striking when mixed mixed with luscious coloured stones! In today's window, pieces perfect for summer but wonderful year-round, too.

Earrings

Is it my months of isolation or are these looking irresistibly happy to you, too? All prices in $USD. If you order, I know you will be understanding about longer shipping times.

Left: Dangles of padparascha sapphires with little Akoyas from Judi McCormick; price, US $495. These are smaller than you might think, just 1 3/4 in. long, but what presence! (Only one of the pair is shown.)

Top right: The shimmery Tahitian keshi as 3in. dangles formed by an array of gorgeous tourmalines and iolite in whimsical mixed shapes. Though long, they are light. (If you have to distance, get earrings they can see!) From Kojima Company; price $495.

Bottom right: Drops of 9mm white pearls with turquoise, set in gold vermeil, from Etsy seller Kivotos Jewelry of Katerini, Greece; price, about $US 110.

Freshwater pearl and pinkish-red ruby Piccolo necklace: how literally cool is this? We've met Hisano Shepherd's littleh designs in the Passage before and now some are on sale; this is $693 at TwistOnline. Includes a 14k gold chain.

Fizzy June finale: A knockout necklace

Photo: Judi McCormick

Baroque Tahitians and carved flourite necklace, with a emerald-set magnetic clasp. This is a piece I see with a simple shirt: just let it steal the glow show. It could have came from the '60s, but looks absolutely current too— a jewelled garden.

Price, $US 1, 495; from Judi McCormick. Thank goddess my trigger finger is immobilized!

Thank you so much for all the hugely enjoyable and informative posts you have given us this year.

A fracture is no small thing: make sure you obey that prescription (including the bit you sip through a straw :))

Best wishes to you from old Blighty,
and I shall look forward to the reopening of the Passage in the Autumn.

I'm so glad that you're taking time to heal. Sometimes saying 'stop' to yourself can be difficult. And what a high note to begin the hiatus! That turquoise, pearl and gold combination made my eyes pop. Enjoy your summer.

Although I’m never totally comfortable with multi colours those pearl items speak of cool linen, drinks on the deck as dusk falls...delightful
Hope you have many pleasurable times during your well deserved break. Take care of your hand and I look forward to reading your posts in the autumn.

Heal that hand and hopefully autumn will bring respite on the pandemic too! Will miss your posts in the meantime...

May the fracture heal well. I'm sure the mojitos will do the trick--or at least blunt the aggravation. Hope that you have a good summer and look forward to the return of your wise and interesting posts this fall.

Very wise to take that extra month to really rest your bones and let them heal. Enjoy that Montreal summer -- so lively and so restorative! Take care, and we'll see you at La Rentrée . . .
Araminta, it was 36c here yesterday - a record for the month of May.

Duchesse, you inadvertently made me a bit sad as my friend who died last year (and who had been pretty much everywhere in Latin America) made splendid mojitos with such a flourish. But it is good to think of him. He was "Martini Jim" - not at all from overindulging in them but in preparing them - and mojitos - with perfect grace.

Materfamilias, I doubt the summer here will be as lively as usual - normally I'd be working my tuschie off for a festival now, and would one of my neighbours - but it remains restorative with all the lush green after the very icy winter and cool spring.

Yes, wise to take the month off from writing, and we will doubtless meet sometime at JTM.

As all our Passage friends have said before I arrived, the month of June is going to be a bit sadder without your biweekly posts, but as always, you’ve launched us with some stunning temptations. To break such critical bones is a signal for you to take good care of yourself, and to have someone mix those mojitos at a regular pace for your healing! Best wishes to you and all your fans here for a joyful summer and may we all meet again this fall with significant progress toward a new, healthy era....
Thank you- as you often do, you have led me to some beautiful discoveries. Wishing you a lovely summer.

I was watching Killing Eve and every time Fiona Shaw pops on screen I think of you. Her clothes are amazing. Have you seen it?
Duchesse said…
Pastel River: I enjoyed Killing Eve; Sandra Oh has long been one of my favourite actors. Not sure why I remind you of Fiona Shaw, but the role she's given in this series is wonderful, just on the edge of surreal.

No no, you personally don't remind me of Fiona, but I think of you and your blog whenever I see the clothes her character wears. Everything fairly simple but superbly tailored and I always think back to your post "simple isn't easy".
