Winter break

The Passage is closed, while we enjoy a celebratory getaway.

I asked Le Duc, "Where in the world would you like to be when you turn 60?" I was mentally shopping for a new swimsuit, and then he said...

"I want to stay here...

Chateau Frontenac, Quebec City
 and eat this:"
Charcuterie at Le Bouchon Le Pied Bleu
(If you'd like to read (in French) about what makes a bouchon, their manifesto is here.)

The Passage will reopen next week. Cheers! even in our -31C/-24F windchill.

Wonderful! I had the good fortune to stay at the Frontenac about 15 years ago -- what a treat. Great place to spend a birthday, eating well. . . and le bouchon, that sounds absolutely marvellous. Enjoy! and Happy Birthday to Le Duc!
Québec is beautiful, but so cold right now!

Mon cher (Le Duc) c'est à ton tour...

Lyon is beautiful too; imagine you've been there (2 hours by TGV from Paris). I spent a month or so there doing research - and yes, of course visited bouchons with Lyonnais friends. Lyon is a very hilly city, perhaps even more than Québec, so you walk off the food and wine... at least when you are still young.

Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful time in that historic hotel and come back and share all the highlights with us...I would love to see more pictures.
I didn't realize that you and I were born in the same year..
