There is a very fine line between good grey and complete cat-lady head. And - so right about head full of dye. Women of more advanced years with obviously red-dyed hair think they signal: look at me! I'm wacky! Woo! Like I care! As a result, I never started to color my hair when the grays started coming in seriously in my 40s. Like many women who look best in cool deep colors, I think my natural, mostly-salt-with-a-soupcon-of-pepper, hair looks better than were it to be preserved in the dark brown color of my 20s. I think that dyeing one's hair after about age 55 tends to result in too sharp a contrast with the texture and tone of one's skin. I have always loved wearing grey and as I age I favor it more than black because, again, the contrast is not so sharp. I am hopeful that going grey naturally will help me to accept the reality of aging with equanimity and maybe even grace. Plus, the money I save goes to good haircuts and stylishly practical clothes :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2872918251244874644.post-85515112426252524572015-01-22T07:13:14.458-05:002015-01-22T07:13:14.458-05:00Definitely a good look. It just seems like the right time: my husband just retired, so I don't have as many "on-stage" occasions; I'm about to turn 65; the dye job is lasting only three weeks, and, like others, I'm becoming more hesitant to put the chemicals on my hair and into the environment. But when I was in my 50's and started to go grey, the mix of grey and my natural dark hair just washed me out. Adding the color to my hair really brightened up my skin tone. I also have a shoulder-length bob, so it will take a lot of transition time to get all the coloring out. So, there is a chance I'll go back. (Hubby isn't saying much, but I know he thinks coloring is the way to go. Both our mothers colored their hair until they were into their 90's.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2872918251244874644.post-80816909598181229042015-01-21T12:28:20.520-05:002015-01-21T12:28:20.520-05:00I like it! I Used to wear my hair very short and cool looking. But now that I'm in my 70's I'm wearing it longer so it's softer around my face and I can still get an attitude going. I now wear more makeup so I don't just fade away. Of course in wearing more makeup I want it to be very light and look like I'm not wearing any. :-) But I do need to define my features.
