I would not expect pearls given at 16 to be "forever" (though might someday be mixed into another strand) nor did you give me a budget, but I like the Pearl Princess- it's hip and definitely not boring. I also like the "5 South Sea Pearls on Black Cord".

You'll want, I'd think, something she can wear easily, not just for dress-up- so how about a pendant? It's lighter and a young look. See "White Drop Pearl Wish Necklace".

In the Loose Pearl section there is a "Glowing Green Copper" natural colour Tahitian, a big, rare standout. Sarah at Kojima can easily make this into a pendant on a gold chain (or even leather, if she'd like that.)

If you have your heart set on a strand, talk to Sarah, Kojima's owner. She does a lot of craft shows and can tell you what the young women like. She also has more pearls than are on the site and will send photos.

Love to hear what you choose! Since you are in Australia also look at Catherine Cardellinis's site- but her style is more mature and 'lady': www.catherinecardellinipearls.comDuchessehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09986153653120526776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2872918251244874644.post-20859908688355915402012-04-23T07:23:02.386-04:002012-04-23T07:23:02.386-04:00Hello again. Perhaps a string of classic white (ish) pearls as large as I can afford, (then try not keeping them for myself):). Or should I be more adventurous in colour and style? I dont want to alert her to the gift, but may have to. In any event I don't trust her taste to last. I would like to buy my daughter a string of pearls, following a family tradition, for her 16th birthday in November. I don't want to buy a demure string. Kojima has great choices but I cant choose! My daughter is 5'4 and petite. Your advice if given will be gratefully received. I will have to post as anon as I am having a google fail.
