Double delight: pearls with gemstones

Pearls inset with gemstones take them to a magical place, where the gems adore one another.

Designers often use big Chinese freshwaters, which supply the real estate for a sumptuous spread. This large baroque pendant, by Judi McCormick, is studded with sapphires, emeralds, London Blue topaz, apatites and tiny gold balls—just a gorgeous array. Price, $US 1, 895.

This is a perfect example of what to look for: lively stones, a glowing pearl, and a high level of craftsmanship. Visit Judy's site to see how she inlays various gems into her "Constellation" earrings, too.

Hisano Shepherd's "little h" line features her acclaimed, innovative techniques; she carves pearls, inlays gems into the concave spacesm and circles pearls with halos of precious stones—it's like nothing else.

Bottom right: Three-pearl earrings: The top pearl is a black Tahitian inlaid with black diamonds; the detachable yellow gold jackets are a Tahitian keshi lined with rubies, and a gold Tahitian keshi; price, $US 3, 250.
Ms. Shepherd has been collecting awards for her work; visit the site to see other jaw-dropping designs.

Pascale Monvoisin sets stones or gold elements on pearls; this pendant, a 13mm x 16mm freshwater pearl set with a tiny diamond, framed in 9k yellow gold, is discreet yet unusual. Price, $US 964 at TwistOnline.

When I saw my girlfriend Alice's Tahitian reno, I was crazy about her one Tahitian with an inset, bezeled yellow sapphire that Kojima Company slipped into the mix. Here's one of those beauties in another necklace, the Ocean Gift, that combines abalone, golden-mauve keshi, sterling silver beads, and that 15mm baroque Tahitian, set with a faceted champagne sapphire.

This is one of those pearl pieces you can wear very casually, but it's special. Price, $US 450.

I like to end these posts with some fabulous flourish just to tune our eye, and sister, this is it: the extraordinary Elie Top's gold and silver Diamond and Pearl Sphere ring, a remarkable piece with a rotating cover—you have to see the other views!

TwistOnline mentions its "mysterious, captivating presence"; one of these rings might belong to Dr. Who's wife, and she will not save it for dress-up, in any universe. Price, $US 7, 390.

Oh oh! This morning we are enjoying some freezing fog weather and your post totally brought some sparkle to the day. I have a cuff bracelet that would play very nicely indee with some of the constellation earring. Should I or shouldn’t I bookmark that site. Could be dangerous. Such imagination. Thank you

Laura J: Suggest you do, because should you be looking for them later, you may not remember where they were ;) (These are reasonable given the materials and the work involved.)

Duchesse, the entire post was a "fabulous flourish," from beginning to end! Very unusual to my eye, and gorgeous. Thank you.

I have purchased from Judith and can gleefully attest to her craftsmanship, kindness, and desire to delight her customer. I wasn’t able to afford one of her I set pearls, but a pair of her earrings is high on my wish list and might be what I buy to celebrate my 60th. I love how happy these pieces are, and am so glad you shared additional artists with us.

And autocorrect changed inset pearls on me. But, rolling with it, Now nice could say “I set” my eyes on how cunning her work is to me!
I much preferred the least expensive, understated but elegant and quirky necklace. I always enjoy these creative pieces, whether or not they correspond to my tastes or rather limited budget. You must be familiar with Meret Oppenheim https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9ret_Oppenheim

That ring is amazing! One could make the argument that it is “practical” with that gorgeous protective cover for the pearl....but I don’t think that would be enough for me to justify the dollars. I’ll add it to my just-in-case-I-win-the-lottery list.
