Ethnic at market; sorbet at shop

In a sea of jeans, these women stood out in their African and Indian prints at Atwater Market.  I can't resist them either, but well-made examples are hard to find.

A colourful skirt with a peach tee, so pretty against her dark skin:

Across town, a trio of fizzy sorbet-hued dresses in the window of the marvelous new dress shop Éditions de Robes reminded me of the Supremes:

Montréal in summer: endlessly fascinating people-watching.

We're still in greys on the Coast, waiting for the sunshine to bring the colours out, so thank you for this welcome splash!

If I could find an ethnic skirt like the young woman's, I would consider it for summer. I haven't been to Montreal in about 3 years. It is a city that I have always loved and returned to. My husband and I honeymooned there 41 years ago. I think it is time to return.

pseu: I love them; bought an Indian print skirt for spring. A dress might be too much (on me) but a skirt is fun.

materfamilias: 12C yesterday, but warming up every day now! (And warmer when those photos were taken.

Kristien62: Check out this one, among others at East:

Second honeymoon here, great idea!

The Supremes--exactly!

Your marketplace ladies look great-- love those ethnic print cottons in warm weather. The other day I took my teen daughter shopping at Old Navy to find some easy clothes for her summer trip to Spain. I was surprised how good some of their things were. We found adorable short cotton gauze skirts with embroidered hems, loose gauze shirts, pretty sundresses--all interesting colors, and all cotton, even the linings. I bought myself an indigo and white block-print tiered cotton skirt, long and comfortable, inexpensive, and perfect for summer, when tailoring details matter less than the feel and movement of lightweight clothes.

I can just picture those sherbert colored dresses breaking out into a chorus of 'Where Did Our Love Go?' I love ethnic prints, I grew up on them in the 70s!

Sue/the view: I grew up on them too, and never left them :) Terrific blog, Sue- your food photos are divine.

C.: Old Navy can yield some gems! Though I will splash out for a wedding outfit, never want to spend a lot on summer leisure wear.

Thank you, Duchesse, for the information on East. In addition to the ethnic skirts, I found a hemp tote at a very reasonable price.
