Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Friday morning

Just to say hi and breathlessly announce some style news from Paris: it's now OK to wear nude stockings. Really. You can see that little telltale crease on many carefully-shod insteps. (Of course if you are under 30 you are bare-legged till snow drifts.)

Even what we ungenerously called "cheaters" in high school, the knee-high version, seem to be acceptable with one's ballerines and loafers. Not that I have pulled up any Parisienne's pantalons to check, but I have my suspicions.

At 12C/32F, Parisiennes break out the parkas and duffles, heavy boots, bulky-knit scarves, even furs. They look bundled to us, as we walk comfortably in light jackets or a sweater.

Paris, as ever, gleams and drifts, winds and tempts. I'll report more next week, but today, a last long stroll in the brilliant, honeyed sunlight, a farewell blast of diesel, the seductive sillage of perfumes, peen-pong of sirens.

à bientôt!

Oh thank you for bringing me along with you through Paris today. Sounds absolutely heavenly from your description, which I can imagine. Meanwhile I prepare for a run on the beach. Our lives are wonderful

Great news from Paris, but it was the last paragraph that had me dreaming. Your words are so evocative of living in the moment. le sigh.

Oh you make me dream of Paris. You look so at home in your surroundings.

Glad to hear about nude hose. I actually miss them, and had pretty much decided I would go against the popular trend and wear what I wanted including hose.

Mardel said everything I would have said, so I'll just say ditto!

I wasn't expecting a post from you till October 25, so what a nice surprise this is. I love your new glasses - much softer looking. And I'm chuckling over the "nude hose are in" news, as I've continued to wear them on those admittedly few occasions I still wear hose (and, yes, knee highs, too).

Lovely! You look relaxed and happy and at home in Paris. Love that green paisley at your neck (is it paisley? looks it from here).
I did notice the sheer nude hose when we were there -- also noticed sheer black, which has always read as on the tacky side here, but might be coming into its own if the Parisiennes are doing it. Ooh la la!

Helen; Yes, and the internet makes it possible to share them- I am still in awe of that.

pseu: After two weeks feel like simply staying on.

Kathy; Tish is wonderful company!

hostess: Takes me 3-4 days to get over jet lag these days, but once really here, feel great.

Susan: My increasing French skills have helped- more to come!

Lorrie: That's the goal wherever we are, thanks!

Mardel: I bought some hose here, such a fab selection, but was surprised at prices.

Carol: Thanks, they are Kate Spade. But I wear the old ones, too.

materfamilias: Good eye, that's a paisley Liberty scarf bought in London in 1975. Knew had stored "somewhere" and found it again packing for the Montreal move.

ming: Thank you; it's often the small details like the sound of birds or seeing children coming home from school that make a place come alive for me.

I'm sure I'd rather see women/girls wearing nude hose than orange fake tan! You look like you're having a great time. Can't wait to hear more.

Parisians do bundle up early. I was so surprised to see many of the women in lovely sweaters when I was barely handling the humidity in early September. So glad that you are able to take in another visit to Paris. I'll be looking forward to hearing more about your visit. Enjoy!

Oh it is so good to see your post from St. Germain des Pres! Hooray for Paris! It really is good news that "one" is starting to wear nude pantyhose again-- I have never really stopped except in the hottest part of the summer and then had to use gobs of self-tanning cream. I can't wait to read your next posts about Paris!

Francie: As you might have read in other posts, am also a champion of skin-coloured skin, no tanning creams, showing under skirts, etc. What really is wrong with skin, in any tone, just as skin? It is just conditioning. One more way the industry makes up feel we are not ok as we are.
